Principal's Message
MRS SHAFQUAT ARA

Govt. Polytechnic for Women, Srinagar has grown leaps and bounds in the recent past. Thankfully, it continues to sustain its growth. This is the only institute of its kind in the valley catering exclusively to the technical aspect of the careers at the diploma level opted by the women folk of the valley.

Besides, the regular diplomas of three year duration, the college runs many short-term courses to impart the necessary skill-sets to the women of the kashmir valley. There are various schemes like recently introduced Skill-Development Initiative (SDI) initiated by the Ministry of Human Resources Development(MHRD), Govt of India under which the college runs a one-year course of Shawl Weaving & Embriodery and Continuing Education Program (CEP) under which various short-term courses of 100 hours or so are run to give the need-based trainings to the target groups.

The Polytechnic has won many accolades and carries a distinction of receiving the ‘Best  Polytechnic Award-2005’ and the  ‘Best  Polytechnic Award-2011’ having been adjudged as the most outstanding polytechnic in North India by the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR), Chandigarh. This is the only college which has won this award twice in the northern region of India. This is a due recognition of our achievements and also a sure reminder that there are more heights of excellence to be strived for.

The college provides the students an environement which make them actively involved in the activities other than what is prescribed in the curricula. Through networking with organizations of repute, the students are placed in actual work situations for long duration of three months to one year. At present we have collaboration with SKIMS Medical College Srinagar, Government Press Srinagar, Alliance Infotech (CADD Center), Software Technology Park of India (STPI), Indian Institute of Carpet Technology, and Enterpreneur Development Institute, Srinagar.

The institute is expected to commit itself to the cause of   the upliftment and progress of women at all levels in the state through appropriate initiatives and programmes. The polytechnic is also expected to strive for the production of employable technicians and entrepreneurs for industry, business and the community in general.
